Quill Gordon Wet Fly
Quill Gordons are the first big mayfly hatch of the season in the Smokies. This can happen anywhere from mid-February into March. These large mayflies hatch underwater and swim to the surface to emerge. This makes it a perfect pattern to imitate using wet flies. Next time you find yourself in a Quill Gordon hatch tie one of these wet flies on. Many more fish will be feeding below the surface than will be taking adults on top.
Wet flies are some of the oldest styles of flies. They fade in and out of fashion but they have always been great producers.
