Barbie Bug

The Barbie Bug is a Green Weenie tied using Fluorescent Shell Pink Ultra Chenille. Brian Courtney tested many colors of this material tied as a Green Weenie. The one color that worked well was Shell Pink. He decided this color worked best for brown trout.

If you read the Green Weenie text on this website you know that Lefty Kreh prefers red. So, there are three colors that experts have recommend, chartreuse included and overwhelmingly a better color. But, red and shell pink works too.

Many of our customers have found that brook trout like the Barbie Bug. We have seen many photographs of brookies that have been caught with the Barbie Bug in their mouth. So, if you want an alternative to the Green Weenie, and one that works well with brown trout and brook trout, try the Barbie Bug.

We suggest you fish this fly weighted with a small piece of split shot attached to your tippet a few inches above the fly. This is a good pattern for the Smokies and elsewhere.
