Light Cahill Dry Fly
The Light Cahill Dry Fly is one of the most popular fly patterns in the Appalachian Mountains. Mayflies, of a similar color begin hatching in the late Spring and continue into the Summer. They imitate many species with some being known as sulphurs. In the Smokies and Southern Appalachians you will see these aquatic insects on the water throughout the day but they are very prevalent in the evenings at times. These beautiful mayflies hatch as trout sip or attack them on the water’s surface.
Design credit is given to Dan Cahill who lived in Port Jervis, New York. As a Catskills resident in the late 1800’s Mr. Cahill is remembered as one of the famous Catskills fly tyers. When you are fly fishing with a Light Cahill, you can be assured that you are part of the heritage of all United States fly anglers. Though this pattern has been around for over 100 years, it is still a very effective fly used by many fly fishermen every year.
We stock these flies year round in sizes #10 through #18.
