Yellow Sally
The name says it all, Yellow Sally. The Yellow Sally stonefly is a small aquatic insect that will be found on most Southern Appalachian streams in the Spring through the Summer. This hatch catches the attention of more anglers and accounts for more angling hours than any other aquatic insect hatch in our area. Why? Because it lasts so long. You will see more numbers of Yellow Sallies during the late Spring and early Summer, especially right before dark. But they are around through the Summer and sometimes into the Fall. This is a very important food source for trout. The Yellow Sally is an important fly for anglers.
You probably notice we offer many Yellow Sally patterns. Our best selling dry flies are Yellow Sallies. And this fly is one of our good sellers, especially for picky trout in slow water. It is tied sparse enough to appear realistic even when trout have plenty of time to examine your fly. You might find this pattern harder to see in rough water. Use it when the conditions are right for this fly.
This pattern comes from Holly Flies, a fly company that specializes in Eastern patterns.
