Simms Foam Boat Patch
If you fly fish in a boat, canoe, kayak or personal watercraft and do not have one of these, you probably have not heard of them. This is a must have for fly fishermen fishing from a vessel. I bought mine and afterwards, wondered how I lived without it.
The Simms Foam Boat Patch holds the flies you used during the day and cut off your tippet for one reason or another. No more blowing out of the boat or lost in the bilge, your flies will be saved and ready for the next outing.
I have tried ripple foam glued to fly boxes. That didn’t work very well. I’ve tried slit foam glued to a waterproof bag. That didn’t work either. The Simms Foam Boat Patch works.
First, this patch is large, 5” x 9”. It comes with hook and loop strips so it can be attached to just about anything rigid, removed temporarily, then place back in position. The slits hold large flies well. The large magnetic “fly catcher” holds small flies securely. Additionally, the Foam Boat Patch looks good. You won’t mind having it mounted to the inside of your boat or canoe.
I have mine mounted to a very large boat type fly box. In the box are all the flies I use fishing at the lake. After I use a fly, it goes on the Boat Patch until I get home.
Another benefit derived from the magnetic “fly catcher is its ability to hold your nippers securely even if mounted on a vertical surface. If the patch is mounted on a horizontal surface, the magnet is strong enough to keep your hemostats in place. The image below is my boat box with the fly patch attached. I highly recommend this product. It is made in the United States.
