Little River Outfitters :: Books :: Fly Fishing Kentucky by J. Thomas Schrodt and Valerie L Askren

Fly Fishing Kentucky by J. Thomas Schrodt and Valerie L Askren
Fly Fishing Kentucky by J. Thomas Schrodt and Valerie L Askren
It was finally written. It’s about time. As far as I know, a book about fly fishing for trout in Kentucky, where I spent the first one third of my life was never published. We’ve got one now.

Fly Fishing Kentucky is authored by J. Thomas Schrodt (Tom) and Valerie L. Askren. If you live near the Bluegrass State, you will want this book.

I have known Tom for many years and even fished with him in Montana long ago. I got a complimentary copy sent by my friends at the Lexington Angler fly shop. I looked at the cover and thought, “Hey, I know one of the authors”. I opened it and thought, “This is awesome”.

The first 50 pages detail excellent “How To” content about fly fishing. It is full of great illustrations that will help you learn more about fly fishing. Next are chapters about Kentucky trout, stocking, insects, fly patterns and reading the water.

Next comes the part I love, descriptions and beautiful color photographs of the trout streams and lakes where I grew up. This book brings back memories. Every body of water where you can catch trout are well described.

If you live anywhere near Kentucky, this book can help you find new places to fish for trout using fly tackle. There is even a chapter devoted to a trout stream that doesn’t exist, not yet. It is Hatchery Creek, below Wolf Creek Dam. This man-made trout stream is under construction.

Tom and Valerie did a great job writing this book and you will benefit by owning it.
