Welcome to the Fishing Report. It is another cold morning in Townsend, Tennessee. Right now the temperature is 12 degrees. Yesterday, the sun melted much of the snow in the lower elevations. The mountains that didn’t get the sun are still white. I talked to one friend yesterday who has been snow bound all week. He lives up high with high gradient roads used to come to town. He was happy to be out and about. Townsend is quiet. There is very little traffic this morning. We may get some more snow tonight.
Fishing has been slow. Some of my friends are catching a few trout but they are working hard for them. The stocked trout in town are being more cooperative than the wild fish in the Park. Ice is a problem. Chunks are floating down the stream and slower pools are frozen over or partially covered with ice. So, the conditions are not exactly great for fishing right now. I wouldn’t wade in these streams. If you fell in the results could be catastrophic. Some of the fly fishermen are now spin fishermen until the ice melts and the rivers warm up a little.
We had a fairly busy weekend at the shop. Rob Fightmaster tied flies on Saturday for a large audience. Tim Doyle tied yesterday. Our free fly tying demonstrations bring people out to be involved in fly fishing without actually stepping into a stream.
It is going to warm up this week. The high Thursday should be in the low 50’s. And it looks like we are finally going to get some rain. The streams are getting low. Melting snow and rain will help that problem. Maybe the fishing will pick up a little by the weekend. Anglers are anxious to get out and fish.
I’m ready for Spring.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
