Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report from the Great Smoky Mountains.  The Shop is CLOSED today due to snow and FREEZING cold temperatures. We closed a little early last night too. The roads weren't too bad right in Townsend, but the two lane corners were slick and in Walland US 321 was completely covered. Everyone made it home safely.

Well I'm not really sure how to put a spin on the fishing conditions. The water temp has bottomed out. The gauge is showing just slightly above 32F. Water levels are good though! Pretty much all the roads in the Smokies are closed due to snow and ice.

This frigid weather shouldn't last too much longer. The forecast for the weekend is calling for temperatures in the 50's. It is going to feel like t-shirt weather. Water temperatures and fishing will still be tough. By Saturday everyone is going to have major cabin fever. The perfect cure for that is going to be our Free Saturday Event. Alex Quick and Rocky Cox will both be here to do fly tying demos.

I'm working on getting a Fly Fishing School schedule finalized. We are going to have our regular Day 1 and Day 2 Beginner Fly Fishing Schools, an Aquatic Entomology Class in July, and some fly tying classes scheduled in the hot months. New additions to the Little River School of Fly Fishing is going to be Rob Fightmaster teaching the Day 1 classes. Rob is also going to add some classes to our offering. He is going to teach a Nymphing Class and an Intermediate Casting Class. We'll be getting more information soon.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us. We'll be back at the Shop tomorrow. Stay warm.
