Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park
February 6, 2010

Welcome to the Fishing Report from the soggy Smoky Mountains.  It is still raining with a little snow mixed in.  The temperature is 40 degrees in the valley.  The roads are fine.  Up high in the mountains there might be a different story.  I’ll check.  Well, Highway 441 between Gatlinburg and Cherokee is closed due to ice and snow.  The Cades Cove Loop Road is also closed.  And, upper Tremont Road is closed.  The Park Service recording didn’t mention Foothills Parkway.  Check with the Park Service before you plan a trip through the Park.  There are some other closed roads and some may re-open.

Little River is running hard.  The gauge near the “Y” is at 4.56 feet or 1,920 cubic feet per second (cfs).  This beats the previous record for this date over the past 44 years.  That record was 1,260 cfs set in 2004.  Median flow on this date is 341 cfs.  The water is fairly clear.  If you go fishing in the park don’t wade.  All the rivers in the Park are flowing strong but none are setting records, only Little River is doing that.

We may get a little more rain and maybe some snow flurries but this event seems to be about over.

Mike Adams and Brian Courtney are tying flies at the shop today.  They will start at 10:00 am and tie until 2:00 pm.  Just come on in and watch.  Feel free to ask questions.  It’s free, no charge.  Just come on over.

The Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited is selling Troutfest Banquet Tickets on our online catalog now.  The reason we do the transaction on our website is for your security.  Ours in an encrypted server so your credit card information can’t be captured in cyberspace.  If you order tickets your credit card charge will appear on your statement as Little River Chapter TU and that account is where the money will go.  You can use Mastercard, Visa or American Express.  Troutfest volunteers, Bill and Sheila will collect the orders from us, process them through a TU credit card machine and mail your tickets to you.  Here is the link to the page.  BUY TROUTFEST BANQUET TICKETS HERE

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
