Welcome to the Fishing Report. Yesterday's weather report said 100% chance of rain and it didn't rain until late in the evening. Today's weather report says 20% chance of rain and it has been raining since early this morning. Hmmmm.
It is a rainy, gray morning here in Townsend. TroutFest is still going on today until 6pm. Don't let the rain stop you from coming. They have plenty of tents to keep you dry.
We didn't hear too many fishing reports from the Smokies yesterday. George Ritter stopped in this morning and recounted his time fishing on the lower stretches of the Middle Prong of Little River. He caught 12 rainbows on Parachute Adams. Sounds like a great day of fishing to me.
I drove up into the Park this morning to check the water levels. Water levels are high on all three prongs of Little River. They are all running fairly stained. The gauge is at 3.23 right now at 10:00 am. and looks to be rising. If you just HAVE to go fishing today be EXTREMELY careful. Stay out of the water and just fish the eddies along the banks. The Little Pigeon watershed over by Gatlinburg looks to be a washout. 1.56" of rain fell on Mt. LeConte in the last 24 hours. Ted Myers heard that there was a 4 foot wall of water that came down the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon (Greenbrier).
Water levels like we have today are very difficult to fish. Nymphs and streamers are the best.....well...spinning tackle is probably the best in these conditions. If you decide to go be very very careful.
There is still today to take advantage of the Orvis Free Reel Deal. If you can't make it by the shop just give us a call!
Given the water conditions for today I say your best bet is to come to TroutFest. For a schedule of the Fly Tyers and the Events going on this weekend at TroutFest go to TroutFest.org
Thank you for taking time to read the fishing report this morning. We hope to see you at TroutFest!
