Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Welcome to the Fishing Report. it is a sunny morning here in Townsend. The clouds are beginning to roll in though. A line of storms are headed across the Cumberland Plateau so we'll have to wait and see if they make it all the way to the mountains. Many times when storms come from that direction they will hit Knoxville and Oak Ridge but only sideswipe us here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Saturday looks like it will be a perfect day. Two forecasts are calling for sunny and highs in the low 80's.
Water tempuratures are still hovering in the mid 60's down here in Townsend. Higher elevations in the mountains will be colder. Water levels are still excellent. If we get any of this rain they are predicting it could make conditions even better. As water temps creep up start fishing the faster more broken water. There is more oxygen in that water and also all the bubbles and churning make it easier to sneak up on the trout.
Fishing continues to be excellent in the Smokies on a variety of dry fly patterns....most all of which are yellow or some varying shade thereof. Stimulators, Paralyzers, Sulphur patterns etc. have all been good. Fishing a small nymph or a green weenie as a dropper can increase your chance of a hook up.
I haven't spoken with anyone lately who has been smallmouth fishing but it should be doing great also. We have yet to see cicadas here in Townsend but Josh of Frontier Anglers said they are out on Tellico Lake. I need to get out and fish some local pond for bluegill. I really enjoy that. It is low stress and high return. Bream are always a good fight especially if you have a light rod. They are tough little fighters.
I better finish this up and get it posted. If you go fishing today keep an eye on the sky and be ready to run for the truck.
Have a great day and good luck fishing out there. Thanks for being here with us.
