Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina
Welcome to the Fishing Report. The sun is already blazing down this morning. It is going to be another hot day here in Townsend. A very nice thing about living near the mountains is that you can find relief from the heat by going up into the higher elevations. Yesterday's high at Newfound Gap was only 75F.
Water levels all over the mountains are low. Little River was at 1.49 feet or 74 c.f.s. this morning. That is quite a bit lower than the median flow of 135 c.f.s. The streams are running clear. I took the water temp high on the Middle Prong of Little River last night around 8pm. It was 67F. Wet wading was very comfortable.
Concentrate on fishing in the fast water. There is more oxygen for the trout in that water and it also makes it easier to sneak up on them. I would go with smaller dry fly patterns. Parachute Adams in #16, Neversink Caddis, Beetles and ants will be good.
It got busy downstairs so the Report got delayed so I'll keep it short so I can get it uploaded before I get too many phone calls and emails seeing what the problem is.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
