Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report. The sky is gray and cloudy this morning in Townsend. It has been a busy morning here at the Shop. Lots of people getting fishing licenses.

The weather forecasts are calling for 80% chance of rain today and 90% tonight. That doesn't leave a whole lot of room for hope, but who knows. The mountains can do funky things to the weather. Maybe we'll get lucky.

Water levels this morning are great. The streamflow gauge is reading 2.25 feet or 295 c.f.s. This is higher than the daily normal of 129 c.f.s. but still a great fishing level. Water temperatures continue to be excellent also. This morning the site was giving a reading of 63.2F, not bad for July.

Lighter colored dry patterns have been doing well. The other morning there was 3 Yellow Sally stoneflies on the windows by the Shop's front door. They were perfect size for a #14 Yellow Stimulator. Yellow Stimulators, Neversink Caddis, Yellow Sallies all work well in #14 or #16. Light Cahills and sulphur patterns have been doing well too.
Summer is a great time for terrestrials. Beetles and ants do great. Green Weenies and Barbie Bugs make excellent dropper patterns.

This is a short report but it is late enough already... If you go out today be careful and keep an eye on the weather.

We will be OPEN regular hours tomorrow on July 4th....9 am till 5 pm.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
