Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report. Today is the last day of 2012. We are going to get a nice end to the year. The weather forecast is calling for low 50's and dry until later tonite. Rain is coming. 100% chance tomorrow. Sounds like a good day to stay in and watch the movies we got for Christmas.

Fishing will be slow today because water temps have dropped and the moon is still full. The stream gauge said it is 38.5 F this morning. You definitely don't want to be falling into that water. Water levels are great. 2.4 feet or 335 c.f.s. is just a bit above the normal for this date of 294 c.f.s.
A customer stopped in early yesterday morning. He said he had been out fishing. I was expecting him to say he hadn't caught anything but a cold, but he said he caught 2. He had a photo of a nice brown laying on a bed of snow.

Today looks like it could be one of the best days of the week to go fishing in the Smokies. Water levels are great and a fairly warm day should help water temps. Nymphs are definitely going to be the best bet. Prince nymphs, Copper Johns, Pheasant Tails, etc with enough split shot to get them to the bottom.

Concentrate on sunny stretches of river. Roadside fishing is good this time of year. There aren't enough anglers out on the water that you need to worry about getting away from the crowds and you don't want to be too far from the car if you were to fall in.

FREE Fly Tying Demos are starting next week! Roger Lowe and Jack Gregory will be here tying from 10am till 2pm. There is no cost. Just stop by, grab a cup of coffee and get ready to see some great fly tying and hear some good stories. You can find a schedule of upcoming FREE Demos here.

There is still pleanty of space in our Intermediate Fly Tying Class on January 19th. More Info You'll learn to tie the Prince Nymph, Light Cahill dry fly, Parachute Adams, Yellow Stimulator, and Bead Head Pheasant Tail. The cost is only $75 and that includes lunch. Just give us a call to reserve your spot.

The Shop will be open today regular time until 5pm. We will be closed tomorrow for New Years Day. On Wednesday we will be back open at 9 am regular hours.

The year is quickly running out. Get out on the river one last time.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
