My New TFO Finesse Series Rod

This is the newest addition to my arsenal...a TFO Finesse Series 7'9" 3 wt. I elected to use REC Recoil Guides, an REC uplocking reel seat (with spalted maple insert), and a modified cigar grip. The goal of this project was to produce a delicate small stream rod (with beautiful components), at an affordable price. I am very pleased with the results. This rod has a soft action that feels incredibly smooth in hand. It will be perfect for its intended purpose...casting tiny dry flies to fiesty, wild trout.

Thanks for the compliment. The thread is actually much lighter than the blank. However, it darkens under the epoxy. This is the same technique that is used to build Winston rods.

I purchased the blank and other materials from Feathercraft Fly Fishing. You can also shop at REC (www.rec.com (http://www.rec.com)). They produce top quality reel seats, guides, grips, etc. They also sale custom rod tubes.

Sweet rod, and excellent work. I didn't know that TFO was selling their finesse blanks for rodbuilding. I am tempted to make a rod this winter, and I may have to look into this.

Me either... I just ordered a blank. A friend as a TFO NXT rod (built on the Finesse blank) and I really like how it casts. Love the spalted maple handle too.
