I think it was Silvercreek who had a mantra of sorts, RGITF, meaning Rod Goes In Tube First.

John, good to see you on here. I’ve been meaning to come over and bring a couple of friends, see if we can do any good. I’ll ck with you if it works out. Best.
Caney has been running water 24/7 for weeks. There's a window this morning but not hopeful for a while yet, for a weekday trip. Been fishing warm water instead.
Mighty nice! What'd they hit?
I have another question -- can the search function access posts prior to the software change? I tried to find some of John Switow's reports from Snowbird, but nothing came up.
so we still use photobucket to post photos? (Not that I've put up any in a long while). I'll try a test photo...
Can't figure it out, though I knew how in the past.

Beautiful!
Thanks David. Based on the info in the article, I suspected caddis. I figure we can fish the river itself when generation permits, and the creek when water is running in the river.

Baitfish patterns using SF Blend fibers, in hopes of some winter stripers.

Anyone know what the bug situation is? Photos in the American Angler article look like I need to run up there.

A few years ago I drove up from Vegas to southern Utah and fished the Beaver River. Merchant Creek is a trib that I think holds cuts, but unfortunately I didn't fish it. Did well in the Beaver...
A small batch of brooks showed up in the Caney a couple of weeks ago. One day we caught none, and the next day there were quite a few. We were told they'd been brought here from the hatchery at...
Flyman, thanks. I'm betting this is what he meant. Said he had been fishing the river for 41 years and had previously landed a 17#, so he knew how to judge 20#
I knew Charley Miller years ago...
A few weeks ago a guy floated thru , even older than me. He said he'd lost a 20# brown that day, # not ". I asked him what he was using and he said "miller wooly." I'm not familiar with that fly,...

Interesting graph. Where'd you find that? I haven't taken a water temp on Caney recently but it did seem that water may have been warmer than expected.

I haven't seen crane flies that small. The adults I see are pretty huge, and I've found larvae about the size of my little finger. I tie my crane larvae in killer bug style on a #8 or 10 hook,...
Curious about fishing the North Fork of the Holston - is there wadeable water?

I have a VT2 in 9' 4-weight, that is my principle Caney Fork rod. It's not as fast as most Sage rods, but smooth. I like mine just fine.

Thanks soft hackle. Sounds like you had some good days.
I'm curious as to what water temps these streams maintain thru the summer?
steve
Really sweet! Should make for years of tying.
steve
Silvercreek, I remember that hat.

I've seen some photos this week of nice Driftless Area fish, and wondered if Softhackle has anything to report.

Beautiful brookies! Welcome.

Classes will certainly get you started. After that, just be sure you leave your spinning rod at home. There'll be some days you might be tempted to get it out, but don't. You have to keep at it to...
