Dang! Good for you! I’m bummed that we had to cancel but next year awaits.
That's exactly what I had hoped to hear. Unfortunately, we punted our trip to next year, same time frame. I'm keeping this info and showing it to my wife. She'll be excited about too.
This is a little off your topic. My wife and I hope to be in NM in September and plan on the Rio Castilla and Valle Vidal. Any advice?
Bran,
Butter, little bit of fresh garlic, salt, and fresh ground black pepper. Mmmmm!

 Found my first ones last week. I agree Breck, this week should be great!
My go to rod is a Winston 8'9" 3 wt. If it's small stream brookie fishing then it's a TFO 8' 2wt.
Oh yeah! All of my pipe tobacco and pipes come from them and has for years. Cades Cove Cavendish is my favorite. Nice folks there.

We'll be in the park this weekend for a family trip and my 5 year old nephew has said "I want to fish with Uncle Mike". I can't wait!
Love your posts Breck.
I think it would be a waste of time. It's only decent during Georgia's DH which will be closed then.

Great report! It is good to see families out backpacking. You are a blessed man.
We came down Slickrock Creek trail once and only once. It was in 1980 and even back then someone had had carved...
The first time you go backcountry you'll probably ask yourself "Why did I bring all this stuff?!!". You can be comfortable with a lot less than you think. Backpacker.com is a good place to get info...
Ducky,
I'm itching to get in there . Hopefully my fishing buddy can get a kitchen pass soon. If not I'll do it solo. When I get ready to do it I'll get some more info from you.
I do always...
Great report and pics, as usual.
I think I know where you were. Would you do it solo?
Mike
Bran,
If you want, you can email me at mmwilson1@earthlink.net and we'll share with you what we've learned in the past year of trailer camping. It is new to us also but we've learned a lot and...
Bran,
The only electrical hook ups are for the campground hosts. You can use a generator at certain times but I know that Elkmont has a generator-free zone.
My wife and I bought our first pull...
I would like to apologize for the crudeness of my previous post. Although that is my opinion I shouldn't have stated it in such a way here. I lay the blame entirely on several ounces of Jameson...
If I said what my opinion of [the Park Service] is I would be banned from this forum, but I did scrape something like it off of my shoe after I fed the dogs this morning.
I like the CDC and Elk in tan for spring and summer and ginger for the fall. Tie the ginger on a #12 for the October Caddis. It makes a very "buggy" looking fly and it is easy to tie.

I got the Rat Sack several years ago and have been happy with it. They are a little pricey but should last a long time. They also hold more than you think they would.
Mike
I'll just have to man up and deal with it. Seriously, I look forward to your posts. They always inspire and are great fodder for my day dreaming. You're a man after my own heart. If it wasn't a 3...
You're killing me with these brookie trips. It will be next month before I have a chance at my first trip for those little jewels this year.
Super nice fish. Again.
Mike
The Middle Prong, Thunderhead and tribs? I'm planning on coming up Friday morning if the water isn't too high and the park is accessible Saturday.

I too did the giardia scramble several years ago. Now I always filter and after owning several I have to say the Katadyn Hiker is my favorite. Clear doesn't equal clean.

Read my post in the "Gatlinburg DH??" thread about what my wife and I saw Sunday evening in Gatlinburg.
