    Post Poll: Fly Knots?

I was curious to see what most of the forum members use for their fly knots. Also, it would be interesting to read why or why not? Add your favorite knot if I left it out.

Improved clinch knot. It is the knot I started out with and still use today. That is for trout, panfish and some bass.

I use the clinch. I used to have problems with it slipping (even when I was using the improved version) until I found out what I was doing wrong. A friend told me I needed to make at least 5 revolutions before slipping the line through the opening near the eye. I use to never pay much attention to how many revolutions I made but now I do and I don't have the knot slip problem anymore.

    Improved Clinch for me.

This was the original knot I was taught as a kid and still use today! It's been a great one for me

i used to use the clinch and found that even after 6 or 7 times it still would slip occasionaly. i found the key to ensuring that it never slipped was to go back up through from the bottom again after the finish. doesn't matter now though i switched to the davy knot and found it personally easier to tie and hasn't slipped out any (yet).

Clinch or improved clinch, although I read or heard that the improved is neither improved or needed. Just the knot I used as a kid. I also read a good knot tied properly, is better than a excellant knot tied poorly.

    Waterwolf,
    Love your reasoning bro!

I had trouble with the Clinch and it breaking on me. Most likely it was something I was doing wrong.

So, I started using the trilene knot. One of my problems is tying this on very small fly hooks-it is hard to get the line through the eye twice on the water. I have been pre-tying flies to a tippet at home to assist with this issue.

After watching a few fly fishing video; I have been trying the Davy Knot lately. I like it and it is simple to tie.
