What Does A Fish Actually See & When!

Although this article details lure color; I feel it is a very helpful topic in choosing fly color as well.

The majority of sub surface forage fish feed on is going to resemble the color of the stream bed. Natural selection dictates this

90% of a trouts diet is brown, green, or some other dark color as most streambeds are dark in coloration therefore fishing dark flies works best the majority of days

That said I'm giving a fish that eats corn a ton of credit

I agree Jim! That is why I try to get my flies to look like the normal pattern; but, stand out in the crowd.

I have not figured out the corn thing. I guess the taste/flavor could relate to some type of bug or it could just be a sweet treat.

This info would have served my dad well about 35-40 years ago before he shelled out the money for the Color-c-lector. Don't think that thing helped us one bit. Let the buyer beware! Flyguys
