Post Fishing The Clinch During Winter Storm "2015-Octavia"

Well, I tried to make the best of this past week's Winter Storm "2015-Octavia". I guess that is The Weather Channel's new trend for hyping and tracking these storms.

I was able to get out on the Clinch this past Saturday during the rain and treacherous slush with the help of my snow chains. The upper Clinch parking lots were bare, besides the remnants of do-nut tracks and four-wheel drive thrills seekers.

    Saturday, February 21, 2015:
Fishing was spectacular with the warmer rain creating a great thermocline for hatch activity. There were numerous midge hatches of several types and trout were readily taking just about any fly I threw at them. I even had great success with large indicators and short drops to combat the rain's effect. The take rate was very good with one every other cast. However; they were mostly dink sizes. I had some success throwing heavier midges (#16 down to #14) on the backsides of shoals and landed a few meatier fish. I had to give up after getting miserably soaked after two-hours.

    Sunday, February 22, 2015:
Fishing was much slower with the lack of sunlight and a steady cold thermocline. There were midge hatches; but, the fish were more lethargic than the previous day. Most of my takes were on downward drifts with a slow and methodical presentation. I guess the take rate dropped down to about one every 10-15 casts. However; it was nice to get out on the river and challenge the trout.

Here are a few pictures from this past week for those who are interested.

You're certainly 10x the man I am to venture out in that. Sounds like fishing was sort of worth it

I told Richard that as bad as it was, I bet there was someone fishing on the Clinch. He doubted it, but. .......

Jim, I guess I was just determined and living so close the river helps! It was fun; but, it was cold and wet. I was really interested in seeing how the warmer rain would affect the activity. It was spot on!

Mike, even Jeremy and Beto stayed home. They did send me pictures all week of them fishing while I was at work.
