    Default Cicadas this year?

I saw a couple of Cicadas flying around my neighborhood this morning. Anyone know if this is supposed to be a big year for them?

Annual cicadas will be out in their avg numbers.

The periodic cicadas hit big time in West TN and beyond, the carp fishing was beyond description this year. The periodic cycles are truly amazing events and offer one of the greatest fly fishing opportunities in freshwater. It always shocks me to never see any other fly fisherman taking part in this event, and even more now that carp fishing is the hip thing with the new fly fishing crowd.

    WW, thanks for the info.

I grew up in Cincy where there are legendary brood emergence's (almost look like biblical plagues) every 8 and 17 years. Wish that happened down here!

I think we have annual, 13 years, and 17 year broods depending on where you live in WNC or ETN.

    Default Don't knock carp

I have fly fished many times for carp especially during locust years. I would suggest not knocking it until you try it. Seven or eight pound carp sipping on locust that have fallen from overhanging trees on Norris should be bucket list for fly fisherman. Throwing a popper to sipping carp crates an explosion and physical fight like few other fresh water fish. To me, they are the poor man's Redfish.
