    Default The Clinch 10/23/2015

If anyone has ever fished the Clinch, 30 minutes North of Knoxville, they know that you really have to put in the time and pay your dues. I have heard the phrase "paying you dues" before and did not realize the true meaning of it until today.

It was my fourth time in two years. I had all but given up this Tailwater, thinking that the trout in it were just upper class snobs that wanted their meals on a silver platter.

Well, not today. Today, I could actually see casings in the water and midges were swarming over some nice riffles near Miller's Island. The water was coming down as I arrived and the fish were porpoising all over. I had a twenty+ inch Brown become completely airborn not even six feet in front of me.

Well, let's get to the nitty gritty of the catch. The average fish was about 10 inches with the last and largest being a hefty 14 inches. Brought 8 to hand total...never in a million years did I ever think I could figure this River out.

Always have to have that commemorative first fish pic

Second surprise of the day...S. trutta on the fly

    Found the Bow pocket

The Clinch has some of the most colorful Rainbows I have seen in a tailwater in the East...so far. Especially in this one...breeding colors.

Musings from the Clinch to be continued (Definitely!)

If anyone happens to be on the Clinch tomorrow could you be on the lookout for my Brodin Phantom Tailwater net? It is a wooden net with clear/white rubber netting. One of the ovals is torn on the rubber netting. In a hurry to beat the flood, my net fell somewhere near the beginning of Miller's Island on the right side at the first little shoal. There is a lot of sentimental value in that net as it was my first, and has seen dozens of fish since I began fly fishing.

If anyone finds it please PM me. Thanks.
