    Default Neversink Caddis

i have a friend who wants a couple dozen and when I ask him what type of hook he wanted he wasn't sure. I was curious as to which hook you guys used. It seems like the last ones I tied I used either TMC 2302 or TMC 2312's? Any preference in humped shank, standard length, fine wire, standard wire, down eye, straight eye etc?

I think the ones we sell are tied a regular shank dry fly hook like a TMC 100.

Thanks Daniel, the ones I looked at on the store website looked like just a standard dry fly hook. Hope you and the girls had a big Christmas

flyman, i always tie all my caddis flies on a hook with a shorter shank. tmc 100 or 101 has a longer shank than i liked for any caddis dry. I think the tmc531 is what i use.

Granny you have given me something else to think about. I like that short shank for small EHC too. It's a good way to get a smaller fly with a larger hook gap I have always questioned that even with the fly's name; are fish taking it as a caddis or a yellow stonefly? I'm not so sure that it's not a better little yellow sally imitation than it is a caddis imitation?

I think Grannyknot is on the right track. Usually you select a hook with the right shank length for the bug you are matching, but since the foam is the body, you really only need a hook with a shank long enough to tie on the materials.
