Sweet!!!! I bet that was a battle. I have been Inshore fishing in a kayak in weather almost that bad and wished I was wading. Nice big red

Very nice catch. Red fishing is probably my favorite fishing to do. Just don't do it enough

After seeing that on Facebook, I wondered how long you could resist posting it here

Curious what flies do you like for the Reds. I like a brown and gold clouser with gold eyes and poppers

Oh baby! I'm going to be in that area in April again and I'm already preparing.
Let's hear the story on that fish!! All the juicy details!

Fishing to tailing reds is about as fun as it gets!
I have a buddy in the Georgetown area. We don't get much done when we see each other, he won't shut up about coming here to catch Brookies and I won't leave him alone about catching those "boring Redfish". I guess the grass is always greener.....

    The Story:

Started with a wild idea of tacking on an additional day to a work trip to Panama City, FL in October 2015. Never fly-fished in the salt, so thought, "what the heck." Had a great time! The guide put me on about 20 fish that I had a shot at. Water was super clear and it was sight-fishing heaven. I loved it. I got three eats, two hook-ups, and one to hand.

I said to myself, "I need to do more of this." I signed up for a three day flyfishing for redfish school in Georgetown, SC. Unfortunately, the weather was horrible. We fished two days and I caught two reds. The fishing was nothing like Florida. Due to the recent deluge, sight fishing was out of the question. We were blind casting to deeper (2-3 feet) pockets near the mouths of creeks on a falling tide. The reds fall back to this deeper water as water drops too low up in the creeks.

I had a great time, but much, much preferred the clear water flats of Florida.

I am going back to SC in April for work and will be taking my kayak.

Nice red. Congrats. Love catching reds out of my kayaks in Florida around Port St. Joe/ Mexico Beach area. Red Tide in the bay really mesh fishing up for a while down there.

That's a good one! You are right, sight fishing for these fish is alot of fun. Unfortunately visibility and wind can be a drawback to saltwater fishing some times. I never go without taking a spinning rod
