    Default Spring Run 2016

Well, as promised, I did my best to make it up North to try and chase some chrome here for the spring. Missing out on the fall season last year was surely a tough pill to swallow however, the fishing out in MT and WY was certainly an acceptable substitute... It has been a crazy winter season as far as NY is concerned with unheard of temps in the 60's in March to now back to snow for April. It has also been the earliest steelhead egg collect from the hatchery on the Salmon River in over 20 years. Everything this year seems off a bit to both the fish and the fisherman. Lucky for me I managed to hunt down some cooperative fish over a few days and definitely scratched the steel itch for at least a few months. Can't wait for the madness to pick back up in the fall and until then will be thinking of October once again...

    With a pretty face...

A fat little hen in fresh from the lake...

Sweet steel on a brisk NY afternoon...

Some nice small stream fishing scenery...

Even the little resident bows wanted to play...

    All color and all attitude...

Just a beautiful fish and one of my favorites of the trip...

    Catch and release..

    Default Steelhead!

Are you sure those are steelhead? They don't look anything like the one that I caught a few weeks ago. Just kidding. Awesome fish. I was told the Salmon River was not fishing well at all this year, but you did nicely. Next year I plan to go up with Jay Peck/Carl Coleman and see if they can get me over the learning curve.

It's funny - you move from NY to Nashville, and miss the tribs. I moved from Knoxville to Rochester, and can't stop thinking about the mountains. What was that Crosby, Stills and Nash song? Love the one you're with?

    Good job on those steelies.
