Default new member looking for camping/fishing recs w dogs

Hello all, I'm looking for recommendations for a "backcountry" camping trip with the wife, and 2 dogs. Obviously hoping for proximity to a trout stream as well. I put backcountry in parenthesis because we're wanting to get off the beaten path a bit, but probably only willing to hike a couple miles.

I know GSMNP doesn't allow dogs on backcountry trails so its out. We're looking at Cherokee national forest. Just haven't found a camping spot yet. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Don't know how far you want to travel but I stayed at Standing Indian campground in the Nantahala national forest last week and it was beautiful. The nantahala head waters flow thru the campground and there are several streams very close to the campground that looked like most streams in the smokies. Some are wild trout fisheries and some are stocking supported. There are also some awsome short waterfall hikes very close to the campground and I believe being national forest you can take your dogs. check it out online.

South Mill River Trail Cherokee NF. Trail head is Turkey Pen Gap. Very Fido Friendly. About 4-5 miles to the trail fork and it is all along amazing streams. There are campgrounds all along the trail. I have taken kids and dogs. Fairly level hike back.

You are correct. I noted my mistake after my post.
