    Default Hiwassee Hints

I may have the opportunity to fish the Hiwassee in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions for a starting place for a couple of hours of wetwading with a chance to hook a fish or two?

    Thanks, RB

There are several pull offs on the way up to the dam, always take the least crowded.
BHPT 14-16 will work, Caddis, Stimulators, MadamX on top have always produced in the past.
Hope you get the chance to fish it.

Be sure to monitor the turbine schedule.. when you look it up it is under "Apalachia"
Usually this time of year they will start up 1 turbine at 10am and 2 turbines at 11am for the rafters/tubers and run them all day til late evening. Should be good wading early in the morning til then. Lots of pull offs once you head toward the powerhouse. Hard to beat a 14-16 Elk Hair Caddis or Pheasant Tails in 14-16. The Hiwassee isn't a real technical river, they will hit most patterns within reason.

First, a big thank you for your replies and comments. I made it on the Hiwassee for a few hours but was unsuccessful catching fish, but very successful in relaxing and enjoying a beautiful day.

Yes, they have been catching them from the stairsteps on down river.
