    Default Trip Planning

    Hello All,

New to the board and the Smokies. I was hoping to get a little guidance from some of you that have some experience in the area.

I'm hoping to go on a little 3 day back country backpacking/ fly fishing trip and am looking for some suggested areas to go. I'm not really looking for the big catch or your honey hole. Just looking to go to a beautiful area, throw up a shelter (preferably not at a campsite), and just relax where there it isn't to much foot traffic. It's been a long time since i was last able to fish in anyplace other than the Caney as I've been deployed in the military. Any suggestions or information you may have that points me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Carter B.

Before you do anything you need to read this:

    https://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvis...ry-camping.htm

I don't believe you can just throw up a shelter anywhere and camp out. But read the above posted regs first.

As an aside, the National Forests tend to be a little less restrictive on backcountry camping. Several in the area, South and North Cherokee, Nantahala, Pisgah, etc. might have more what you're looking for, but again, check the regs first.
