Unfortunately the wildfires of media sensationalism are spreading, too: As an example, many news outlets were reporting that Ober Gatlinburg was "completely destroyed". Completely false - it was untouched.

Watching the news, you get the impression that all of Gatlinburg has been destroyed. Not true. The vast majority of structures, budinessss, and attractions are just fine - thanks to the skills and bravery of various firefighting crews.

Don't believe everything you read or see on TV.

    Unhappy

    Crazy ****!

It blows my mind that twin creek fire was started from embers from the Chimney tops fire. The irony is haunting. They say 75-100 structures gone in Cobbly Knob that was started from down power lines. Westgate and Black bear gone. My buddy lives on Indian camp creek and while his house is currently there many neighbors were not as lucky. They reported that last night 30 fires went unattended as people were already maxed out with personnel they had. Heard someone just lost their cabin on Baxter creek.

While our local news accuracy has a bit to be desired, this definitely isn't something that's media driven and is quite real and horrible for many.

I'm sure with daybreak and much more help arriving they will get in under control. Thanks to all of you out there helping!

    UPDATE 12:30 TUESDAY 11/29/2016

Here is link at WBIR of things damaged or intact as they know of right now. Remember the fire is less than 24 hours in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge proper area so info will ebb and flow. This fire is already being labeled as an historic event for our area, if you saw the fire behind Ripley's Aquarium last night it was probably no surprise it reached Mysterious Mansion haunted house(much confusion on real damage-reported still standing on their facebook shows permanently closed) just down the block. There are two or three big hotels between the two but I have not seen anything about damage to those hotels, River Terrace being one of those. Thankfully no report of fatalities, a few reported being treated for burns. Got a text from my friend Chad who lives in Gatlinburg proper he is fine, but not sure about his home or business as of this morning.

    UPDATE 2:30 PM TUESDAY 11/29/2016

    LINK: http://www.wbir.com/news/local/gatli...ooks/357912872

Here is WBIR link to Governor's response on visit to area with TEMA, still no reported fatalities directly to fire but 29 year old man Brian Huffstetler married father of two, a City of Alcoa electrician working wind related electrical problems in Walland was killed by a falling tree. Walland for those not from here is the small town right before Townsend on your way into the Park going to Cades Cove/Little River Rd area. Prayers to his family and to the three people that were sent to Vanderbilt burn center in Nashville in critical condition. My company had four employees that had to evacuate their homes, we have an employee relief fund that they have access to, prayers to them. I think the only thing to compare this to is if you have ever been out West like California when those winds come in at 50-80 miles an hour the speed and intensity of the fire is unreal.

I know this is serious and my prayers are with Gatlinburg but is the media blowing this out of proportion?

    Are there anymore updates?

Three people confirmed dead. Definitely some erroneous reports but it's not being blown out of proportion. Lots of big fires, a few disturbing videos are already on YouTube that show the devastation
