Heading to Tampa in March with the family. The kids are too young for salt water fly casting (they do OK on our local streams), so this will just be spin fishing. Any recommendations on a guide in that area? Thanks!

I can’t help with a guide but i enjoy fishing just south of that area in the mangroves. A lot of places will rent a skiff or canoe/kayaks. The fishing can be loads of fun at the right times, a chunk of frozen shrimp or cut fish on a jig will get a bunch of about anything. If you don’t get live or frozen bait use Berkley gulp or DOA shrimp (artificial), scent seems to be paramount in salt water. My favorite food fish down that way are mangrove snapper and sheepshead
Thanks! By south of that area are you talking about Sarasota/outside the bay or further south. We'll have our truck so can move around if needed.
I have always fished around fort Myers because that’s where my mom likes to vacation
Head to Sarasota Bay and turn left on Whittfield Street and take it to where it ends. Just park there and you can wade out close to a mile or so if you want (though I usually never went that far) and start casting a Closer if you are fly fishing or a white or chartruse rubber grub. Lots of speckled sea trout, redfish and snook. I fished there many times when I lived in Florida.

Thanks 16g! Will check it out!
