If the president shuts down the government and all of the park or portions of the park are closed, will the event be postponed to a future date?

"In the event of the hypothetical you asked, there is never a postponement, an alternate location would be posted, we roll on New Year's Day, rain or shine!

Default UPDATE: Bigsur's New Year's Day Karma

Here's hoping everyone is having a great holiday and able to spend time with family and friends whether they want to see you or not!

Check out the 2019 Bigsur's New Year's Day Karma plaque created again by our own infamous Duckypaddler! He has outdone himself again this year with his laser engraving. He has truly captured Bigsur's likeness in detail. A combination of Roman gladiator and American hero, I am gorgeous!

Seriously give Duckpaddler a shout if you need top quality laser work from glass to brass. The dude definitely got skills!

On a side note I spoke with Park Administration on Friday evening as the Government shutdown began. They said the Park access would remain open including Metcalf Bottoms except in case of snow or trees down, forcing closure until shutdown is over when maintenance group would be back at work.

Obviously this is an event that can change quickly. Stay tuned here for any updates & changes. Regardless as usual we have a back-up location. That location would be posted here immediately if needed. We roll on New Year's Day!

Thanks to everyone who came out to "Big Sur's New Year's Day Karma Tradition 2019"!
It was another great year with unbelievable temperature in the 60's on January 1, and even with high flow waters fish were caught.
We started a little later with the Park having limited access due to road closures, most people came in via Wear's Valley.
The only problem with that was someone tried to take a tractor trailer up the hill between Townsend and Wears Valley and got it stuck sideways
turning 321 into a one lane road in both directions for a while.

That aside the food this year was over the top, with Stanta Claus making his world famous Cajun gumbo again this year! Combine that with black bean soup,
appetizers like bacon wrapped dates, and tarts with brie and cranberries brought by people, hot dogs and brats were a distant second. This event is getting classier
than Bigsur ever imagined! A special thanks to Duckypaddler for outdoing himself again this year for providing the
"Big Sur's New Year's Day Karma Tradition 2019" winner's plaque. If you need laser engraving or his "foamies" give him a shout, the dude does outstanding work. Also a shout out to our four new angler friends from Indiana who stopped by and got to try first hand the Cajun Gumbo from Stanta Claus.

Thanks to all the anglers who competed and congratulations to Chris Turner the "Big Sur's New Year's Day Karma Tradition 2019" winner! I was happy to see Chris take home the plaque, get his picture taken with the infamous "Herb's Welding Shop Hat", and most importantly take home the winner's coveted six pack of Vienna sausage, America's favorite canned meat product from the good folks at Armour! Check out his beautiful rainbow below, hats off to Chris Turner!

I want to thank everyone who was there, it is not only a great way to kick off the year but I truly appreciate spending time with old and new friends and I am grateful for their friendship! "See ya next year at "Big Sur's New Year's Day Karma Tradition 2020"!
