A gear review about a cooler? Why? Well, this one is special. This is the Fishpond Blizzard Cooler. I got mine when they were first brought to market three years ago. It has become the one piece of gear I take with me every time I go fishing. I can’t say that about anything else I own. I like trout fishing, bass fishing, bluegill fishing, tarpon fishing and all saltwater fishing from flats boats to kayaks. My Blizzard goes with me every time. Two years ago I bought several as Christmas presents for some of my fishing buddies. Now, when we fish together we all have one identical piece of gear, the Blizzard. It is a soft-sided cooler. We have all seen them in every shape, size and color. But this one is different. First, it keeps your drinks and food cold all day. One reason other than the fact it is well insulated is the small entry port on the top. You can pull it open and grab something and you don’t have to open the entire cooler. That conserves cold air. The Blizzard has pockets for storing food or utensils that you don’t need to be cooled. Standard equipment is a carrying strap that really comes in handy. The rigid bottom offers support and durability. And it is made by Fishpond. Jack showed me a cool trick this summer. We would be out all day in the hot sun fishing in kayaks. The night before we would take water bottles like you buy at a grocery store and pour a little water out. Then put them in the freezer. The next day you have clean frozen water to put in the cooler, the frozen bottles keep everything else cool including your lunch and whenever you want some ice cold water you have it. You do need to pull out a bottle to thaw. The bottles in the cooler stay frozen. The Blizzard Cooler sells for $69 and they are worth every penny. You might win one. We are going to have a drawing for one just for subscribers of the Little River Journal. We will draw January 2nd before the next issue arrives. To register to win just do the following. Send an e-mail to me using the link below. I need your name, mailing address and phone number. I will print out the e-mails and put them in a box. We will draw and announce the winner in January. Have fun and good luck. Byron byron@littleriveroutfitters.com
