"The Shop” or "About Us" is a very broad subject. It is not easy to define. It’s not just a place to buy fishing tackle. We are more than that, much more. First, the Shop is people, men and women working here who love the sport in many and varied ways. All of us fly fish for trout. We live in trout country. Trout got most of us started. But, we also have people working in the shop who fish in saltwater and warmwater. So we’re not just a trout shop. You can tell by looking at our rods, reels lines and flies. The people who work here are friendly and helpful. Don’t worry if you are new to the sport. We like people who are beginners. We train approximately 200 beginners in our school every year. When you first pull in the parking lot it will be obvious that we are larger than most fly shops. We have room to park 50 cars. When you walk in the front door another “big” impression will be obvious to you. But when you talk to us you will see that we are not as big as we look. Our friendly service is like that of a small store. Actually we are a small store, just a large fly shop. We are also a mail order company. We ship tackle all over the world but most of the time in the United States. You will see that we carry almost every major brand in all price ranges. If you click on our Online Catalog you will see a huge selection of fly fishing gear. We are almost everyone’s dealer. If we don’t have something you want and it is not listed in our Online Catalog just call us toll free at 865-448-9459 and we’ll probably be able to get it for you quickly. We don’t charge for shipping and handling of fly fishing tackle if you don’t mind ground shipping. If you need faster service we can do that too at an additional charge. We are conveniently located next to the Post Office and UPS comes by every day. You will also notice that our Online Catalog is easy to use and sorting through all the gear is made easy by our software. Your credit card number is encrypted and safe. When you walk into the shop you will see the largest selection of fly tying materials, hooks and tools than you have probably ever seen. That is one of the reasons we built a large store. Fly tying materials takes up a lot of wall space. Another indication that we are a fly tying store is that many of us tie flies, not just for trout but for bass, bluegill and saltwater species. And we carry the materials for most species of fish. If you don’t tie flies you can learn here. We have fly tying classes offered in our school and an Aquatic Entomology Class offered three times each year. During the Fall and Winter we have Free Fly Tying Demonstrations on weekends. You can just come by and watch some excellent tyers demonstrate their skills. You are visiting our website now. Here you can learn more about fly fishing than almost anyplace on earth. You can visit our Fishing Report that is updated every day. We mean it, every day! You can visit our Message Board. There you can dig through the threads, ask questions and get answers. You will find this to be a “Friendly Board”. We keep it that way. At the top of the page you will read “Information, Friendship and Fly Fishing”. That is our model for the board and we make sure it stays that way. Look on the home page and find the Little River Journal Archives. This is our monthly e-newsletter that we write and send out. You can sign up and get yours a month early. The articles are written by us and other guest writers. It is extremely popular and a great reference for you to visit later. We are also a Fly Fishing School. We learned to teach beginner fly fishing from Joan Wulff who developed a system for teaching people to fly fish. We all traveled to New York to learn to teach this class. We also hold Fly Tying Classes. Our methods have been tested and developed for years. We can teach anyone to tie flies. You will also notice that we are located next to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This 500,000 acre wilderness has over 800 miles of fishable trout streams. You can park your car and walk down to a stream to fish or hike miles into the backcountry and find solitude. All the trout in the Smokies are wild. They stopped stocking there in the early 1970’s. You can fish for rainbow, brown and brook trout. We can help you find what you are looking for. Just come in and ask. Nearby are many TVA tailwaters that are also stocked with trout. Also nearby is the Tellico River and it’s tributaries. Townsend is one of the best places in the East if you want to fish for trout or other gamefish. We can hook you up with some of the best fly fishing guides in the area. We know them well and we won’t send you to someone who you don’t want to spend the day with. The guides we recommend are friendly and enjoy teaching you how to fish in the Smokies streams and on the area tailwaters. So, our Shop is more than a fly shop. Contact us in person, by phone, e-mail or through this website. Thank you for visiting here today. |
