Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:34 am, the temperature outside is a 32.9 degrees.
Snow is likely today after 7 am, then mixing with rain this afternoon. Today’s high temperature will only reach the low to mid 30’s. We have a chance for snow tonight. Accumulations today and tonight, in the mountains, are expected to be as much as 5 inches, with 1 to 3 inches in the valley.
It is going to be cold through the weekend, with highs in the 30’s and lows in the upper teens to the mid 20’s.
That doesn’t sound good.
Little River is flowing at 156 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.89 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 205 cfs.
The water temperature is 43.2 degrees this morning. That number will fall through the weekend.
That does not sound good either.
On a brighter note, I saw a photo of a brown trout Ethan caught yesterday. I think he said it was 22” or 23” long. He was fishing in the Park. He said he still saw some browns on their redds, but not many. The spawn is about over in Little River.
So, the water is going to be cold. Fishing will be slow, except from some actively feeding brown trout. After the spawn, they are hungry. They don’t care how cold the water is.
Then, we have a chance for slick roads, especially in the Park. Some roads may close.
Well, Highway 441 has already closed due to snow and bad weather. It closed 35 minutes ago. You can keep an eye on the road conditions in the Park by CLICKING HERE. That will take you to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Road Info Twitter page. It is update often, during the day and night, when bad weather is occurring.
I would bookmark that page if you are planning to fish in the Smokies this weekend.
I can’t find or think of any more news right now. Check back later for updates.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
