Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

If you do not see today’s Fishing Report, please refresh your browser to empty your cache.

Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 6:16 am, the temperature outside is 26.1 degrees.

We have a 50% chance for light rain today. Expect a high temperature in the mid-40’s. Tomorrow will be warmer, with a high near 60 degrees. It will continue to be warm though next weekend, with high temps in the 50’s and 60’s with lows dipping only into the 40’s.

More rain is expected Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Little River is flowing at 107 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.68 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 278 cfs. The water temperature is 35.8 degrees this morning.

Fishing will be slow for the most part today due to the cold water temperature. One exception is a shot at a post spawn brown trout. They may be feeding. Watch for those.

I would use nymphs, fished weighted and deep.

We will see water temperatures rise this week. If that number rises above 44 degrees, all trout will become more active. Fishing will improve.

And, you may see some surface action during a blue wing olive, midge or other aquatic insect hatch. Be on the lookout for that.

One thing you won’t see is many people fishing until Christmas weekend. This is going to be a warm week with warm rain. Who knows what to expect. I am hoping for better fishing.

I am busy photographing flies and adding them to our new online store. That is what I will be doing today. I will spend all Winter adding new gear to the site.

From now until Christmas, we will be getting a lot of orders for gift cards. Actually, we have sold a ton of them already this month. They can be ordered online by CLICKING HERE or call the shop at 865-448-9459 to order.

We can even e-mail a gift certificate, which is something people do at the last minute. For now, we can mail the plastic cards and they will arrive on time.

It is daybreak. It looks to be cloudy. It is cold. I will enjoy working inside today.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
