Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

If you do not see today’s Fishing Report, please refresh your browser to empty your cache.

Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. Sunny and warm is the forescast again for today. It is going to be another beautiful day in the mountains.

The streamflow gauge on Little River this morning is 1.85 feet or 170 c.f.s. This is just below the daily normal of 233 c.f.s. The streams are flowing clear. Water temperatures are a seasonable 61F.

David Knapp of Troutzone Anglers was in the Shop this morning getting some clients ready for a day in the Smokies. He said fishing has been really good. They were over on the West Prong of the Little Pigeon and tore up the rainbows.

Dry fly fishing has been very good in the Smokies. The yellow sallies are starting to hatch in the evenings. Yellow Stimulators, Rob's Hellbenders, and Neversink Caddis in sizes #14 to #16 are great choices. Other light colored flies like the Light Cahill and Sulphurs will produce well too.

Using a dropper can be an advantage this time of year. Try a smaller pheasant tail or even a green weenie dropped below your Stimulator.

Fishing has been good across the Smokies. You can fish right along the roadside or hike back into the backcountry. Concentrate on the broken water and fish quickly. A few casts to each spot and move onto the next one. Cover ground.

The Clinch is running one generator all day. I guess that is probably good if you are a boat fisherman but too high to wade. The Holston below Cherokee Dam is running a pulse. The South Holston is still sluicing.

We have had a busy week here at the Shop. All this pretty weather has people wanting to get out on the water. If you haven't made it out there yet this year, time is ticking away....you can't get those days back.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
