Little River is flowing at 202 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.99 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 87 cfs. The water temperature is 62.8 degrees this morning. The river is rising slightly right now.
Little Pigeon River is flowing at 483 cfs, compared to median flow of 125 cfs on this date.
Oconaluftee River and Cataloochee Creek are both flowing above median flow today.
Fishing should be very good today. It is overcast and water temperatures are very good. Anglers are using both nymphs and dry flies.
My nymph choices would be kind of standard patterns, Tellico, Hare’s Ear, Prince and others. For dry flies, I would use a searching patterns like a Parachute Adams, Elk Hair Caddis and Yellow or Orange Stimulators.
Most important is stealth and presentation.
I don’t know how much rain fell in the mountains last night. It does not appear we got much. Not much rain is expected today, though we may get higher amounts tonight. I guess there is a chance you will see stained water today, but I don’t think that is likely.
I am sitting here in my home office and it is pitch black outside. All I can see now are numbers on my computer.
Townsend is busy. We are very busy at the shop. Visitors from other states and Tennessee are here for their Fall vacations. They are here to enjoy the Fall colors, which are not happening yet. It won’t be long. The colors are late, due to the unusually warm and wet Fall we have had so far.

WBIR has a video depicting the color changes over the years. You can watch it by CLICKIING HERE. Their presentation is very interesting.
Fly Tyers Weekend is knocking on our door. I am really looking forward to this event. I am especially excited, because, I have nothing to do with the planning and implementation anymore. All I have to do is show up and talk to people. I like watching the fly tyers too.
Even if you are not a fly tyer, you can gain plenty of knowledge from these 40+ demonstrators. Not only do they tie flies, they fly fish too. They will be here to share their knowledge of tying and fly fishing.
Fly Tyers Weekend is also a social gathering for me. I see lots of old friends, that share my interests. I also meet new people. It is really a lot of fun.
Fishing is usually very good in late October and early November. This year will probably be different in a good way. We may see more Fall colors. Water levels will likely be higher than in years past. We have about two weeks between now and then, so you never know.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
