Little River is rising. Flow is currently 167 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.87 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 79 cfs. The water temperature is 53.1 degrees this morning, at the low elevation site just inside the Park at the Townsend entrance.
Little Pigeon River is flowing at 312 cfs or 1.86 feet on the gauge in Sevierville. Median flow there is 133 cfs for this date. The river is rising.
Oconaluftee River at the Birdtown guage is flowing at 361 cfs or 1.62 feet. Median flow there for this date is 196 cfs. Oconaluftee is rising quickly right now.

So, the streams are rising and more rain is expected today, mainly before noon. It is impossible to predict how high these streams will rise, before peaking. Hopefully they won’t rise much and be fishable today and through the weekend. You may find stained water in some streams today.
Water temperatures are within the trout’s preferred range in the low to mid elevations. It will be slightly warmer today and tonight. The water temperatures in the Park should stay relatively stable through the weekend.
If you go fishing today, I think nymphs will be your best option. Watch for quickly rising water in the stream you are fishing.
A bear cub was hit by a vehicle in the Park yesterday. The cub was treated at the University of Tennessee Vet School and is now recovering at Appalachian Bear Rescue in Townsend. You can read the story and watch the video on the WBIR website by CLICKING HERE.
The Missing Link of the Foothills Parkway will open to motorists November 10th. Before that, shuttles will take interested people along the new route, so they can walk the Parkway without traffic. There is a good updated story on the WBIR website on the subject. CLICK HERE.
Fly Tyers Weekend starts tomorrow. It will be chilly in the mornings. Dress appropriately. The tent will be heated.
I can’t wait.
UPDATE 3:31 PM - HEAVIER THAN PREDICTED RAIN HAS CAUSED STREAMS TO RISE QUICKLY. THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE YOU WILL FIND THE STREAM OF YOUR CHOICE FLOWING HIGH AND POSSIBLY STAINED.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
