Little River is flowing at 884 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.22 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 231 cfs. The river is rising rapidly. The water temperature is 44.8 degrees this morning.
Little Pigeon River is rising quickly. Flow is currently 1,760 cfs or 3.50 feet on the Sevierville gauge.
Oconaluftee River is flowing at 1,310 cfs, 2.87 feet on the Birdtown gauge, which compares to median flow of 393 cfs. The river continues to rise. The water temperature is 40.3 degrees.
Tellico River is flowing at 2,610 cfs, 6.25 feet at the Tellico Plains gauge, which is a record for this date. Median flow is 174 cfs today.
Cataloochee Creek is flowing at 181 cfs, compared to median flow of 76 cfs. The water temperature is 32.2 degrees, according to the USGS gauge data. That is probably wrong. I think they have a data error at the site.
Though rain is all that is expected in the foothills today, it will be snowing in the higher elevations. Heavy snow is predicted at Elkmont and at higher elevations. Highway 441, Newfound Gap Road is closed due to snow and ice. Foothills Parkway West from Walland to Wears Valley Road is closed. Other roads in the Park may close today. You can check the Park’s road Twitter page by CLICKING HERE. As roads close, you should be able to find the information on this page.
The streams in the Park are blown out and they are all still rising. Wading is not recommended.
With high water, snow predicted in the higher elevations, and possible road closings in the Park, this is not a good day to be fishing there.
I would stay home and tie flies, while watching football games if I didn’t need to be working today.
Whatever you do, have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
