Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. This sun is shining brightly this morning. One bad part of living west of work is driving into blinding sun every morning.
It is going to get to the low 40's today with temperatures dropping into the 20's tonight. Tomorrow won't be much warmer. The weather forecast is calling for a bit warmer as we get to the weekend. Cold overnight temperatures are going to cause water temps to fall. There won't be any need to be out on the river first thing in the morning.

The Little River Road from the Y to Metcalf Bottoms is still closed. You can access the upper part of the river and Elkmont Campground by going in the Wear Cover Entrance (Lyon's Spring Road). There is a lot of downed trees along the route.
Little River is flowing at a better level than it has for more than a week. This morning the gauge is giving a reading of 2.57 feet or 442 c.f.s. The daily normal is 288 c.f.s. Water levels are still on the high side but much more manageable.
Water temperatures cooled over night down to 48.2 F. I don't expect this to rise much today. Water temperatures are going to take a big drop tonight as air temps will drop below freezing. Fishing is likely to be slower tomorrow.
Dropping water temperatures will slow the fishing. There will be no need to be on the river at first light. Give the streams a chance to warm some. Nymphs will be your best bet over the next several days. Don't be shy with the split shot. Cold weather can cause the trout to cling to the bottom.
Trout in stocked streams don't seem to be as affected by temperature drops as wild trout do. Delayed Harvest streams are an excellent destination this time of year. Tellico River has a delayed harvest. You need to have your Tennessee Trout License but right now you don't need to have the Tellico Daily Permit. You can also fish down there on Thursday and Friday until March 15.
Ken McClain and Sindy Boyles will be our featured fly tyers this Saturday from 10 am till 2 pm. Stop by!!
If you head out to the river, be careful. Water is still high. Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
