Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is already sunny and warm here at the Shop. Anglers are considering wet wading.
Today's weather is going to be warm and sunny. The high will be mid 80's and there is almost no chance of rain today. Rain is in the forecast for the weekend.
The Little River is flowing at 2.14 feet or 253 c.f.s. The daily normal is 239 c.f.s. This is a very good flow for fishing. There will still be some spots you won't want to be wading but overall it is good conditions.
Water temperatures are a seasonable 62F. Higher elevations will of course be cooler. On a warm afternoon, wet wading is going to look very appealing. I don't wade deep so cold legs from the knees down can be refreshing.
Fishing has been good across the Park. Little River is doing well all along the road and the anglers who are venturing upstream of Elkmont are having good success as well. Middle Prong and Lynn Camp Prong are always a solid bet. If you are looking for more solitude you may want to drive a little further and go to the West Prong of the Little Pigeon. This is the stream that flows along US 441/Newfound Gap Road and eventually through Gatlinburg.
Lighter colored dry flies have been working well in the afternoons. I would have Smoky Mountain Candy, Light Cahill, yellow or tan Elk Hair Caddis and also some Yellow Sally patterns. Good Sallys are Rob's Hellbender, Neversink Caddis, Yellow Stimulators and the Doculator.
I'm going to keep this brief since it is already a bit late. Take advantage of the beautiful weather and get out on a stream. May is here....before we know it we'll be celebrating July 4.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
