Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:08 am, the temperature outside is 53.8 degrees.
This is going to be another beautiful day in the Smoky Mountains. It will be mostly sunny with a high temperature in the mid-70’s with no rain expected. Rain returns tomorrow and Thursday. The weekend is predicted to be dry and sunny, but colder. Expect frost Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Little River is flowing at 134 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.70 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 109 cfs. The water temperature is 58.1 degrees this morning.

This is a great day to be fishing in the Smokies. The stream levels are very good. Water temperatures are excellent in the low to mid elevations. The leaf colors are beautiful. It is going to be warm and comfortable. Trout will be active. The only better condition than we could have today would be cloudy skies.
More rain coming tomorrow and Thursday is welcome, helping work us out of the drought. I hope we don’t get too much rain.
It is good to see more people fishing for trout in town. Little River was stocked last Thursday. News travels fast. TWRA ceased stocking during the hot Summer months which is normal. Stocking was postponed this Fall due to very warm water temperatures and low water. Those days are over for now.
I don’t see many wade fishing opportunities on our area tailwaters today. Maybe I missed something. Check the TVA website yourself from the links below to see if you can work with the generation schedules on your favorite river.
I have not heard any news from fly fishing anglers who have been fishing on the lakes. I have not been fishing on the lakes at all this year. I’ve been working every day. Our boat is parked in the boat house, gathering dust. Today will be a nice day to give your favorite lake a try. I bet streamers will work on the shaded banks, if you can find shaded banks. Go early. Hook up your boat trailer right now and go. When the sun gets high, the fishing will probably slow.
Don’t forget, Fly Tyers Weekend is upon us. The fun starts Saturday morning and continues through Sunday afternoon at Tremont Lodge in Townsend. See who is tying and where they are from by CLICKING HERE.
What you will see is the web version of a newsletter that is going out today to thousands of subscribers. I am looking at the names and towns right now. States represented are Tennessee, North Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina. Over 50 tyers are traveling here from afar, for your enjoyment.
Fly Tyers Weekend is Free! All you have to do is show up.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
