Fishing will be good in the Smokies today unless you happen to be fishing a stream that has been adversely affected by heavy rain, which is possible. Most streams are flowing above normal. Dry flies and nymphs will work.
Lowland river fishing may be good for smallmouth bass and other warmwater species in some rivers. Stained high water is possible today. Poppers, hair bugs, and foam floating flies should work. If not, try streamers or nymphs.
There are fly fishing opportunities available on some tailwaters, especially early today. Refer to the TVA website from the links below to view the expected generation schedules on your favorite tailwater.
Lake fishing is good today though thunderstorms may be active. I would stay close to the ramp on a day like this one. Swimming nymphs, streamers and top water flies are what I would use.
A man drowned in the Oconaluftee River yesterday saving a young family member in distress. The youngster survived. Read the story on the WBIR website by CLICKING HERE.
I found a very good article on fly fishing for carp called “The 15 Best Carp Flies”. The article was written by Jay Zimmerman and published on the Fly Fisherman website. You can read it by CLICKING HERE.
I really enjoy catching carp on a fly, but I have found it to be frustrating on the lake I usually fish. I haven’t caught many. If you have not tried it, maybe you should. It is normally sight fishing. We all love that.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
