Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:43 am, the temperature is 29.7 degrees.
It will be sunny today with a high temperature in the high 50’s falling to the upper 30’s tonight. Each day this week will be sunny with only a low chance for rain this weekend. Every day will be warmer than the day before.
Little River is flowing at 303 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.32 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 119 cfs. The water temperature is 45.3 degrees.
All streams in the Park that have USGS gauges are flowing higher than normal. Water temperatures are cold and falling this morning.
Fishing will be better later today when the water temperatures reverse and warm somewhat. Fish the low elevations where the water is warmer. Nymphs will probably work best.
Lowland rivers are flowing higher than normal. Smallmouth bass and other lowland river species will be sluggish. Trout fishing in the rivers where they are stocked will be fair to good. Streamers and nymphs will work best.
TVA will be generating at most area dams today. Tailwater wade fishing options are limited in the region. I did not check all the generation schedules this morning so you may find opportunities, especially if you are boating. Click on the links below to see what is available for you today.
Lake fishing is probably fair today. It will be sunny so go early or late. Cast streamers or swimming nymphs to the banks.
Fishing conditions are going to be very good in the Smokies this weekend. High temperatures will be in the mid-70’s Saturday and Sunday, with lows in the mid-50’s. The streams will warm to within the trout’s preferred range. Water levels will have fallen to good fishable flows. It may be partly cloudy each day with only a slight chance for rain, according to the current forecast. That could change of course.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
