Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:49 am, the temperature is 41.5 degrees.
Today will be partly cloudy with a high temperature in the low 70’s falling to the high 40’s tonight. Winds will be light and variable. There is only a slight chance for rain.
This warming trend will continue through the weekend and next week. We can expect high temperatures in the upper 70’s tomorrow and Sunday with lows at night in the upper 50’s. Rain is in the forecast next week beginning Wednesday.
Little River is flowing at 199 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.03 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 149 cfs. The water temperature is 49.5 degrees this morning.
All streams in the mountains are flowing higher than normal and at good fishing levels. Water temperatures will rise over the next few days, to well within the trout’s preferred range. Fishing for trout in the Smokies will be very good this weekend. Nymphs will work. Dry flies may work too. We do not normally have fishing conditions this good in November.
Lowland rivers are flowing higher than normal. One important condition factor is the warming water. Smallmouth bass and other lowland river species will become more active as the water temperature reaches their preferred range. Streamers and nymphs will work. Hair bugs, foam floating flies and poppers may produce as well. Fishing will probably be best later today after the water has warmed further. Fishing will be very good this weekend. Trout fishing in the stocked rivers is good.
I know many of you are hoping for angler friendly flows on the tailwaters this weekend. I did not see any wade fishing opportunities today below the dams I checked. I did not look at all the schedules so you may find some options by clicking on the links below.
Fly fishing on the lakes will improve as the surface temperatures warm over the next few days. I think streamers and swimming nymphs will work best but you might see gamefish feeding on the surface when the sun is off the water. Go early or late. Try heavily weighted Wooly Buggers, threadfin shad imitations or damsel fly nymphs. I would certainly tie on a hair bug, popper or foam floating fly and see what happens. Wind will not be a problem for you over the next few days.
I moved into my new office yesterday and I plan to set up the photography studio in the new location this weekend. Moving the photo studio is not as easy as it sounds. Some of the large flash units are held by adjustable booms mounted to the walls. They are big and heavy.
I will be moving fly tying materials and tools into the new expanded area in the fly tying department next. The department is now one third larger than before. It will be much more open. Materials and tools will be easier to find. More customers will be able to shop and keep their distance from each other. You will notice the new area is very well lit by 16 LED flood lights. The total square footage is now over 900 square feet.
We are selling Renzetti fly tying vises and tools online. We also have some materials available for sale on our online store.
Our plan is to put almost everything in the fly tying department online in the future and maintain 100% fulfillment on orders. I have been tracking that daily since August. So far, we are still at our goal of 100% fulfillment. That takes dedication to being well organized, disciplined and vigilant. To do that on a larger scale will require a new team member working with me in the department. He will begin training in mid-November.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
