Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:47 am, the temperature is 47.8 degrees.
It will be mostly cloudy today and warm today and tomorrow with highs in the low to mid-60’s. We have a chance for rain late today and tonight. Thunderstorms are possible. It will be windy, especially in the mountains and foothills with gusts up to 50 miles per hour possible. The low temperature tonight will be around 50 degrees.
Little River is flowing at 132 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.78 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 192 cfs. The water temperature is 45.3 degrees.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing at or slightly above normal.
Fishing is probably fair. Water temperatures are chilly but they will warm today and through the week, improving fishing for trout. My concern today is the wind. If it is in fact as windy as predicted, you probably do not want to be fishing in the Smokies until tomorrow.
Lowland river fishing for smallmouth bass will be slow today but we will see some improvement as the water warms. Fishing for smallies should be better tomorrow and Friday. Trout fishing where they are stocked in the lowland rivers will be good tomorrow and Friday. Nymphs and streamers are good choices.
I did not see any wade fishing friendly flows on the tailwaters in our area today. If you are boating, you may have some options. Visit the TVA website from the links below to see what is available for you today.
With the possibility of strong winds, I would not plan to fish on a lake today. Wait until tomorrow or later this week.
We will be closed tomorrow to observe the Thanksgiving holiday. I will not be writing the fishing report or going to the shop to sanitize before we open. Tomorrow is going to be a “real” day off for me and I’m looking forward to it.
I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and thank you for being here with us.
