Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:46 am, the temperature is 30.6 degrees.
There is a good chance for snow and rain today. The high temperature will be in the low 40’s dropping to the low 30’s tonight. Tomorrow will be dry and warmer with a high in the middle 40’s falling to the middle 20’s tomorrow night.
Little River is flowing at 249 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.10 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 310 cfs. The water temperature is 39.6 degrees this morning.
Most streams in the Smokies are flowing at or slightly lower than normal. Water temperatures are low, in the 30’s at most elevations.
Trout will be lethargic in the mountain streams due to the cold water temperatures. Your best chance is to high stick or Euro nymph weighted nymph rigs. Don’t expect fishing to be good.
Lowland river fishing is slow. Smallmouth bass are inactive. Stocked trout may be caught using nymphs, egg patterns and possibly streamers. Trout will not be very active because the water is cold.
There are breaks in the generation schedules at some dams today. Visit the TVA website from the links below to see what your tailwater fishing options are today.
Jack and I are going to town today to pick up materials for a remodel project on the ground level at the shop. We are building a new office for Dave Anderson. I think we will get this built quickly. Dave is taking on the responsibility of managing some of the departments in the shop.
We have more fly tying materials arriving this week than I can remember. I know of at least two orders that are arriving today. There are more to come later this week. This is fly tying season and we are very busy in that department. We are preparing to add more materials and tools to the online store this Winter. We will need to beef up the inventory on those items first.
Dave and I changed the way out of stock items appear on our online store yesterday. Now, you will be able to see what is out of stock before you click “Add to Cart”. I think this will be a very good improvement.
Spring fishing is not far off. We are getting ready.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
