Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:54 am, the temperature is 67.6 degrees.
Light rain is falling.
We are under a flash flood watch again today. The high temperature is what it is now. Rainfall amounts between 1 and 3 inches are expected beginning this morning and lasting through tonight. Temperatures will fall to the low 30’s tonight. The rain could change to light snow by morning. Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with a high in the middle 40’s, falling to the middle 20’s overnight.
Little River is flowing at 833 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.12 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 356 cfs. The water temperature is 54.1 degrees this morning.
Streams in the Smokies continue to recede but they are still flowing higher than most anglers prefer. The ground is saturated. With heavy rain expected today, streams in the Smokies are prone to flash flooding. If you venture into the mountains, be aware that waters may rise quickly.
Lowland rivers are still flowing high and they will probably be flowing much higher later. Little River looked nice yesterday, but the water was too swift to safely wade.
TVA and the Corps will be generating all day at most primary and tributary dams. They are also sluicing and spilling at many dams. You may find an exception by visiting the TVA website from the links below.
There are very few if any fly fishing opportunities today.
The long term weather forecast looks promising after Friday. It will be much warmer this weekend. We will enjoy sunny days Friday through Sunday. Fishing conditions will depend on what happens today. It could go either way depending on how much rain we get.
Easter Sunday will be sunny with a high in the upper 60’s. We will be closed Sunday. I will not be writing a fishing report. I’m going to get a “real” day off.
Will and I placed fly tying department orders and received two boxes of orders from Wapsi yesterday. I will finish that up today, then get back to photographing materials and tools for our online store.
This may be a very good day to tie flies and prepare for better fishing conditions. After the water levels fall, fishing will be good again.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
