Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is a cloudy Sunday here. Rain fell yesterday and refreshed stream levels.
Water levels are rising. At 9:00 am the streamflow gauge is giving a reading of 2.46 feet or 373 c.f.s. The daily normal is 245 c.f.s. According to the website it appears that water levels are still rising but since the rain has stopped flows should level off. This rain is a good thing as water levels had been pretty low.
Water temperatures are up this morning. At almost 52F it is a good improvement over the last several mornings. The weather forecast for the upcoming week is warmer with warm overnight temperatures. Water levels are going to rise and that should cause the trout to be more active.
Trout fishing in the Smokies should be good today. I would start with nymphs early and switch over to dries in the afternoon. A dry with a dropper can be a great set up also. There is a good chance that Middle Prong of Little River (Tremont) is muddy this morning. It usually colors up quick after we have had a dry period as all the road dust gets washed into the stream. This clears out quick though.
The Shop has been busy this Spring. People are feeling better about traveling and getting outside so they are catching up on fishing trips that they missed out on last year. Getting merchandise to sell in the Shop has been a challenge. If you are needing a new pair of waders that can be a major challenge. Most of the core sizes are not available till late summer or even fall. Right now if we don't have a pair in the storeroom we can't even order them.
Manufacturers are doing their best to remedy these issues but they have to deal with factories and material shortages and shipping delays. We sat through a virtual trade show with Chota and Miss Mayfly the other day. They have some new waders coming this fall. The best thing about them is going to be the range of sizes that they will be available in. Miss Mayfly is womens waders which can fit almost any woman. Adding to their chest wader they are going to have a pant wader. Chota is expanding their sizes on their new wader. We are very excited.
Our Orvis sales rep is coming to the Shop tomorrow to show us new things which are coming this fall. They are due to have some good changes also.
I better get this posted before it is too late so you can make plans to go fishing. Be smart in the higher water levels.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
