Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:50 am, the temperature is 68.0 degrees.
A thunderstorm moved through the area last night. Rainfall amounted to .52” in Townsend, .67” at the Old Tuckaleechee Personal Weather Station, .23” in Cades Cove and .16” in Gatlinburg.
The remnants of Hurricane Ida will affect Tennessee today, tonight and tomorrow. Our area is under a flash flood watch through the period. One to three inches of rain is expected today through tomorrow in the mountains and foothills. Strong winds are possible in the mountains.
The threat from this storm will be over in our area Thursday. It will be sunny and much cooler later this week. Expect high temperatures in the upper 70’s with lows in the upper 50’s Thursday.
Little River is flowing at 235 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.09 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 86 cfs.
Little River at the Maryville gauge is flowing at 788 cfs or 7.04 feet on the gauge.
Streams in the west side of the mountains rose overnight. Some streams are rising now. Others are receding.
This is not a good day to be fishing in the Smokies or anywhere in the area. I would not plan a day of fishing in the mountains tomorrow.
I watched video of the flooding and wind damage that occurred in Louisiana. It is heartbreaking. I am unsure how Alabama, Mississippi and other states were affected by this hurricane. I hope you all are OK down there.
We got a call from our security company at 1:00 am this morning. A motion sensor indicated a possible intrusion at the shop. Police arrived at the store immediately and reported everything looked fine. If the police didn’t beat me there, I would have driven to the shop and searched the building, heavily armed. I don’t know how many times Paula and I have gone to the shop looking for burglars in the middle of the night. We have never found one, thankfully.
Thank you for being here with us.
